Juno Reactor - Labyrinth - I really liked Shango. This album takes the cheesy epic garbage that Juno Reactor contributed to the Matrix OSTs and recycles some of it. For roughly half the album. That part is terrible. The other half is actually pretty good, resembling the ethnic based noodling on Shango, which I am a fan of. In conclusion, I can't recommend this unless you liked Juno Reactor on the Matrix OST.
Hexstatic - Master View - ninjatune mix makers finally relase a full album, and, lo and behold, it's fine. Not super great, but fine. If this year's lack of good downtempo and breakbeats left you dry, then this one is for you.
Rainstick Orchestra - The Floating Glass Key in the Sky - Another upcoming ninjatune release. Calm spacious loops and beats, with some tracks showing elements of the modern composition of Phil Glass and Steve Reich. Good and varied effects, beautifully simple drumming. Recommended.
Tim Hecker - Mirages - More fuzzy soundscapes that resemble some of mine. Not too much change since the last album, but that's fine if you're a fan of that sort of glitchy, hissy, beatless stained glass music window. |
