I live... again by Ice Cream Jonsey 02/20/2006, 12:51pm PST
Let me begin by saying how much I appreciate the advice given to me in this thread. Every one of you. I've read a lot about the problem I have and I think I am well-educated (certainly much more than last week) on just what can happen to somebody trying to muck about with these things.

The game has been off since October, so I am reasonable certain that there's no charge in the Big Blue capacitor. I expect that the monitor has some, though. But here's my remaining issue --

The monitor is held in place in a way so that the top of the monitor facing the sky. I know where one would hook alligator clips and shove the screwdriver in order to get the thing discharged, but it's impossible to get to the area that is the rear of the monitor without taking it completely out of the cabinet first. On a standup, I'd discharge the monitor and only then try to unbolt it and move it. But I've checked -- to really get at the guts of the machine the CRT needs to come out first.

This... is OK, right? Remove it, then discharge? I don't expect that anyone here has an immediate answer, so I'm looking for this answer. rec.games.video.arcade.collecting probably knows, and I'll try there.

I also discovered that the original table art for CC isn't right on my unit. I've just got a color-printed flyer there, when it should have art that looks much different and encompasses the entire table. And Player 2's trackball doesn't light up. And some of the t-molding could be redone. I think I'm committing myself to "restoring it." Not because I think there's anyone salivating at the thought of pics of my grotty cocktail, but because it opens the door to you guys posting pics of your games, which I would love.

(And while I am on the subject, if anyone comes across a working Robotron for sale within 500 miles of Colorado, let me know. I played it the other weekend at a Dave and Busters on a custom MAME machine and having the two joysticks so far apart really kind of ruins the experience.)

Thanks once again, everyone.
