Got a router recently (no more ICS), and then I download Planetfall, which is free (at least for a year), run the patcher, which fucks up non stop for an entire day (1 hour remaining turns into 2 hours, into 5, into 20, into 40, into 100, restarting fails to resume the patching system). Now on both computers there are signs of full disconnects about every 10 minutes or so, where it says AIM was disconnected or there's a lag spike in jso's Wowcraft game. It's not from my bittorrent client or its max connections setting.
There are about a billion different causes for this, from the cable outside being fucked up, Planetfall's unbelievably buggy piece of shit software ruining our computers or internet connection, or moom attempting to change our ISP to AT&T (some ADSL line), not understanding that there needs to be a phone line practically next to the modem in our room, where there are no phone lines, or a few hundred feet of cable running around the house which she'd have to install herself OR she'd have to buy wireless ethernet recievers for our computers. Just because they had a few months free. She ran into our room this morning with the phone in her hand and practically woke me up to have someone from AT&T tell me that I need their modem practically RIGHT NEXT to the phone line to hook it up, I had to inform everyone that there is no phone line in here, so this plan isn't going to work. Then I told her to cancel this AT&T deal, so she did. Kind of sad really. Moom wanted a connection split to HER computer also, so she wouldn't have to use dialup on her shitty emachine with like 733 mhz. I told her that all she'd need is a wireless ethernet reciever put in, since our new router (which was sent by a real pal ^_^) has wireless stuff also.
I will try this powercycling idea first and then get back. :( |
