+pretty decent prologue sequence which seamlessly integrates survival horror cliches with a story inspired by the guy who thought most of those up in the first place
-FPS style gameplay is shit.
-Many noncombat sequences outside the prologue (which is pretty sweet) are really boring.
-Graphics are not good.
-you have to accept that inevitably the big bad is made up of monsters that would not look or act impressively in the era of quake 1, let alone now.
-the panic system is not good
...from which follows....
-enemy success is premised more on handicapping you than making them any good.
So, if I'd paid more than the bargain bin price for it, I'd be upset. As it was, I was too bored really quickly to play much further than the beginning portion. So the game may get awesome later on, but I'll probably never know. The fact that I'm ok with that is not a positive review overall. I'll settle for rewatching the awesome amateur silent film version of Cthulhu instead. |
