I'm rereading the good parts of the foundation trilogy and my attention turns towards a space empire game.
What's up with the combat system? Giving the player unprecedented control over ship creation, then auto-calculating all the combat sounds like the stupidest idea in the world. Is this sko Warlords 3 thing where you're mixing and matching various bonuses and counterbonuses to your fleet stacks? Or is this sko Spaceward Ho! thing where you custom design the ships, but combat is entirely decided by numbers and tech level alone.
And how much of a micromanagement headache does it become in the lategame? It seems odd to me that MOO1 was relatively simple and fun, yet everyone thinks the only proper way to improve on the formula is to increase the amount of shit you need to juggle, rather than having less, but more nuanced, shit. |
