I see, the link I posted was also only "half an optical theremin," lacking the amplitude control. Here's an example of a full circuit, with amplitude control. It would be trivial to add some pots or switches for range control as well.
In that way, they've turned a cute but useless little screeching box into something that could potentially be used for music.
It's clever, but I don't see how you could really make music with it. The demos make it out to be no more than an expensive toy.
that midi theremin seems kind stupid - if you're going to use MIDI then why not just buy a reliable XYZ controller like an Alesis Photon?
I hadn't seen the Photon. Is it precise enough to play like a full instrument, or does it only generate 7-bit controller values? |
