Definitly better than Doom 3.
However, besides the swee graphics, nothing really amazed me about the game itself. The whole time you play is basically narrow hallways and shit, the game isn't as dark as doom 3 but your only personal light source is a zippo, which means basically you have no way to see in the occasional dark areas.
Otoh, there are a few parts where you will say "cool" or "sweet" at various events during the game, like the tiny rock planet you shrink onto during the demo, or somesuch.
One other thing which may turn out to be either a huge positive or negative depending on the person playing it, is the idea that native americans are going to save humanity by spirit walking (in between large amounts of time shooting aliens with their own strange weapons). I don't buy it, and I think it is kind of gay, but the native american powwas you get are pretty neat when they are in effect during the game. Like when the ghost of your pet hawk distracts an enemy while you are mowing down a group, or when you do eventually die how instead of the game just screaming YOU ARE DEAD in your face, it takes you to an alternate world where you shoot flying red or blue stingrays to regenerate your health and "mana" up to a point where it will respawn you back to a very nearby death waypoint or something.
I have not beaten the game yet, so maybe it gets incredible after the first 1/4th. But for now I am more interested in HL2ep2 TF2 and Portals. |
