This may be old news to some of you, but if you have a copy of Freespace 2 and still haven't tried out the Source Code Project, now is the time to do so. They've gone way beyond, "Hey, maybe we can implement some T&L!" The new visuals are good enough for a full-fledged sequel. Plus it's fully XP-compatible and plays without the CDs in the drive. This is the core file. These are the media files, you won't need the patches. Dump all that stuff in your Freespace2 folder. Here are some slightly outdated instructions. (Still good enough to give you the gist of things.) Here is The FS1 port. Be warned that the port is a little unstable and uses a lot of FS1's graphics so it's not quite as pretty in SCP. And here is the new SCP-optimized and fully-voice-acted (obviously not by any Baldwin Brothers, Robocop villians, or Peeses of Chit in need of being shot) Derelict Campaign, the most popular user-made campaign and the closest you'll ever get to FS3. Grab this and the FS1 port and you've got a whole trilogy. And there's an assload of other campaigns all over the internet of varying quality. Did I ever mention that this is the greatest game ever made? |
