"Dude, I was totally going to punch you in the mouth over that cheese sandwich thing, but you're Ice Cream Jonesey's hero, so I guess just don't let it happen again."

Anyway he designed all the games for this company for a long time, and then they started renting licenses like Bejeweled, and then their biggest competitor bought them out, and then Liberty Media bought both of them. I guess somewhere there's an org chart that says I now work for the same people as the guys who make the Simpsons.

The two guys I work with are (not very) rare Massachusetts Republicans, so it's like AM radio in my department all day. They're funny and sharp, so it's something like hanging around in #gamersangst all day. Yesterday at lunch we had a discussion I can helpfully summarize as "Illegal Immigrants: Should They Be Nuked From Orbit or Simply Chopped Up and Fed to the Other Poor?" We're all too old to change our minds so I let them prattle on about "How They Need a Salary Cap in Baseball" as well, even though they were patently wrong there. I listened intently to "How Opie and Anthony and Howard Stern Should Do More to Get Along" because I haven't listened to either in years and it was nice to get an update on that.

I'm not complaining about them, they seem like good people. I spent a lot of time at my other job around people who were pretty much politically similar to me, but no one here is a dick or anything so it's easy enough to get used to people who are the other way. The biggest problem is I'm used to walking two blocks to work and now I have to take 2 trains, and it takes fuckin forever (ie 45 minutes if I do not stop for iced coffee) to get there in the morning. Also this is a 'real' salary job where you work when there's work to be done, and when there's nothing to do you don't have to fucking sit around until 5PM. There's no real 'crunch time' because they've been at this so long their whole publishing process is practically on rails.

The network itself is one of the most incredible things I've seen. It's not like my old one where everything was made to support massive bursts of processing for math simulations, instead every part of it is made to run 24/7 and absolutely not break ever, so I get to see how the design choices are different than mine, which is pretty cool.
