Review: Ms. Pac-Man 96 in 1 by Ice Cream Jonsey 08/12/2006, 6:19pm PDT

There is a guy a few towns over that grabs Ms. Pac cabs and inserts the 96-in-1 kit into them. There's about 96 different versions of Pac Man, Ms. Pac, Super Pac and then Pac Plus. He also includes "Alien Armada" which is seemingly an exact clone of Space Invaders, some games I had never heard of and finishes with Pengo. The kit is phenomenal. It's impossible to get tired of this much Pac.

You can choose which level to start the games, tell the thing to run a screensaver, choose between slow and fast Pac modes (fast is a lifesaver -- I can't believe how terrible I am at these games at normal speed) choose difficulty level and many other options. He also includes several custom Pac mazes which, ehhh, it's nice that they are there but I haven't become good enough at any of the original games to move onto them.

He also put a new control panel in the cab, so if you have this "thing" about pizza and teenager grease consuming the controls, fret not! I couldn't justify a dedicated cab and 312 pounds to something that plays just one maze game, but with the kit it all works out. And I really had some trouble finding a replica of the Pac/Ms. Pac joystick on some of the arcade hardware sites we mentioned elsewhere in this base. It's good to have the real thing. I don't quite understand all the cases of "Pac Man elbow" that you'd hear about 25 years ago -- the joystick is very comfortable.

the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!

(Side note: I was reading the World of Stuart forum recently and apparently arcade fans in England hate Americans who fill up their basements with arcade games. Who knew? The way they cram us into sardines out here in Colorado, it really makes me wonder if it was just one angry person in particular with this irrational fear or if the housing situation in England is really, really tight. )
