| Looks like I fixed it though (as long as it doesn't give me disconnects like the piece of shit Belkin router was).
But it looks like they were all totally seperate isolated incidents though. Belkin routers randomly disconnect, and Linksys routers come basically broken but fixable if you can find a way to download the invisible TFTP (trivial file transfer protocol, I never heard of it before either) hidden somewhere on their support website packaged with a firmware update for a router model that is 99% likely to not be the model you have, then you fuckin combine the .bin file firmware update with the TFTP program, hold reset on the router for 30 seconds, set your network card to half duplex, set your IP to 198.bloobloo.20 and gateway 192.168.1.1 and ping 192.168.1.1 and HOPE it pings (it didn't at first, then I reset the router for 30 seconds on a whim even though I already did it 5 times already THAT DAY making me figure I wouldn't need to do it every fuckin time I try something different) and then realize that you don't need TFTP (which gave me failure to update errors anyway) because you can go to http://192.168.1.1 in a web browser and update the router firmware through the page that shows up there, then powercycle for the 50th time that day. Should take you about 5 to 180 hours, $30 in gas for the jew truck, 4 straight hours of driving, and $55 for the first router that won't work and then another $20 for the next router you have to fix yourself after the return trade-in. Is it just me or was getting a functional router harder than it should've been? PS: my plan from here is to pack this router up, return it for another refund (they can shove their 15% restocking fee up their ass if they think I'm paying it, this linksys router wasn't even repacked and the manual was all bent up and shit) then buy the exact same model and brand from Walmart for $20 less which is what I would've done in the first place if I knew Walmart even sells computer shit like routers and whatever (never went there and assumed it was like K Mart with dirt all over the floors and people wearing no shirts tearing open cereal boxes and eating them right there in the store and putting the torn up boxes back on the shelf where they found them). Really I don't even feel like going out right now (the sky has been stuck at 9 pm all day, even at noon). Maybe later I'll feel like picking up a free $20 after another 4 hour drive, 1 hour in one direction, another hour coming back to head another hour in the exact opposite direction to Walmart then back home with another router that I will hope works out of the box like I did with all the other routers that didn't. |
