I think SW fans are just jealous because Star Trek has about 30 years of watchable cannon material, while SW just has 3 good movies and 3 horribly bad shitty movies.
Canon so watchable, I only just manage to flip the channel before falling asleep.
This is the point, the best parts Star Wars films have kickass Han Solo flying very fast and doing stunts and getting into shootouts with Star Destroyers while the Death Star looms. Meanwhile some Jedi fights Darth fucking Vader with Force powers and lightsabers.
The worst parts of Star Wars are what make up Star Trek. A squad of nobodies discussing boring bullshit about protocols and negotiations and relationships while working their boring day jobs.
Which Star Trek are you talking about? As Star Trek moved through iterations the special effects got better, and everything else got worse.
The Original Star Trek was great. The most optimistic of the Twilight Zone era Sci Fi shows, with episodes written by real sci fi writers (Richard Matheson, Harlan Ellison, etc.). Episodes were about ideas and the characters' purpose was to drive the ideas. At the center was the trio of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, with the latter two representing the Rational and Emotional drives pulling Kirk back and forth as he faced the moral quandries each episode threw at them. Yeah the sets were styrofoam. Yeah, the red shirts always die. Yeah, Shatner's an actor of questionable skill. So what? It was good science fiction.
THEN came TNG. It still had great episodes, but things became increasingly geeky and soap-opera-y. The Enterprise seemed to be doing less exploring and more errand-running. Tachyon waves and other bullshit science began getting thrown around more often. It's amazing how many "gods" the Original series threw around and none of them approached the annoyingness of Q. Wil Wheaton was the posterchild for human evolution. Patrick Stewart bitched with his brother in some wine fields. Dream Sequence after dream sequence.
Then Roddenberry died and things went downhill fast.
Deep Space Nine. Let's take Star Trek, remove all the trekking, and have it all revolve around the wacky hijinx of managing a shopping mall on the border between space Israel and space Palestine. And lets make sure everyone is constantly bitching at each other. It'll be great.
ST: Voyager: Okay, we're back to exploring, but lets make sure there's plenty of reasons for the crew to bitch at each other. Uh Oh, we're losing our audience, let's add a borg chick in spandex and standard-issue borg high heels.
Enterprise: I never even saw this one. All I have to say is: Scott Bakula.
Still, the slow decline of Star Trek was nothing next to the double-dildoed assfuck of Jar Jar Binks and Yippe Christ Vader. |
