I liked the item world at first, but after a while a lot the monsters you were killing to level up an item would be ridiculously easy in the first set of levels.

I think it just becomes much harder to find a "sweet spot" of combat difficulty when your stats increase in several orders of magnitude through a game. The first 100 levels are much more balanced than the next 9899,
