AIM log about someone else's neighbor and THEIR lawn by Ray of Light 08/01/2007, 11:55am PDT
Ray: my hipster friends have a neighbor who cuts her front lawn with a handmower and then scissors. My friend made up a theme for her on his guitar which he plays when she is in visual range.
Ray: it sounds like if the Kids in the Hall band played Glycerine
mrk: Shadowy Men From a Shadowy Planet
mrk: or do you mean the band IN the show, "Armada"?
Ray: haha no Shadowy Men
mrk: www.manufactum.co.uk/.../product/1400804/Product_Details

Ray: hers is like this but with no bag
mrk: note the slogan of this company, "the good things in life still exist"
Ray: pushing a handmower around probably would help you to recognize the good things in life
mrk: such as not pushing a lawn mower
Ray: while drinking on his porch one night, she came out and started to cross the street and he started to play the song, and I tried to make lyrics for it.
Ray: it started out funny but it turned out she was crossing the street to tell us to SHUT UP
Ray: this is what I've been able to reconstruct of the lyrics:
Nitrogen fixation - Photosynthesis
These are the things that make the grass grow
So get out your shears
and get down on your knees
You'll feel a tingle in your fingers and toes

Who needs it more - is it you or the lawn?
I may never know - I knew all along

The grass needs cut
The grass needs cut
The grass needs cut
ItellyaItellyaItellyaItellyaItellyaItellyaItellyaItellyaItellya HUUUNH!
The muthafuckin grass needs cut

Who needs it more - is it you or the lawn?
I may never know - I knew all along
mrk: I take it the HUUUNH is suppose to be similar to what precedes "war, what is it good for"
Ray: I'm citing him as an influence right now
mrk: manufactum is a pretty funny website. It's for people similar to those that would shop at Hermes of Paris, only without any money
Ray: this looks just like Lee Valley [Canadian catalog store that is just like Manfactum --ed]
Ray: the same kind of scam, cheap Asian goods all dressed up
mrk: yeah
mrk: haha: www.manufactum.co.uk/.../product/838822/Product_Details

Ray: haha
mrk: it is listed under the category "games of movement"
Ray: "Do you sell something I can shoot with this gun?"
mrk: "certainly not my parents (for buying this piece of shit)"
This game was invented in 1908
Ray: I like the implication that it took 500 years between the invention of firearms and somebody realizing you could play a game with them
mrk: it was all serious work for a long time
mrk: aside from william tell, of course
Ray: "then there was an ACCIDENTAL shot which hit some junk and people realized it might be fun"
mrk: yeah. Someone shot a can by accident, then they shot it a second time on purpose
mrk: they couldn't even believe what they were doing
Ray: then someone else came along and said they sucked at it
Ray: competition ensued and history was made
