The ever-growing chorus of dead princes
Michelle Pfeiffer
Ricky Gervais, whose schtick works super wonderful in a fanstasy setting, and I hope this leads to many other such roles for him.
Scenery
All of the costumes that weren't on Claire Danes
CONS:
Everything else. It's a romance built on some of the least likeable leads I've ever seen
(She: I'm a STAR, GAH, can't you get that?
He: I'm meltingly bland. And I'm in love with someone else. Heh heh.)
{By the way, what is up with The Rise Of The Totally Bland Dude? Seriously dudes are getting so bland they're turning into one big brown-haired blur.}
Clumsy fag jokes alleviated not in the slightest by that their target is Robert DeNiro, and for fuck's sake what a hidebound old-fashioned Gay Sidekick queen he's playing.
Reviews liken this movie to everything from The Princess Bride to The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen: this movie is not like those movies. To begin with, it's neither as full of funny or of whimsy, and to end with, it's 40 minutes too long.
You can safely miss this one, unless you're unlucky enough to get dragged to it. Or hey, maybe you'll be perfectly happy to watch an over-budgeted star-studded version of a girl tied to the train tracks, eeevvvvillll mustache-twiddling dude standing nearby, etc. |
