It's a rare thing these days, to read a review so obsessed with how the game actually plays, not which Japanese pop star your protagonist is modelled on or how many variations of Nissan Skyline you get for your $60. One imagines we might have more reviewers like the Reverend if we only had more games like Space Giraffe.

Speaking as someone who's cleared all 100 levels and earned 10/12 Achievements, I would ever touch SG again, and that's about the highest praise I feel qualified to give a game. Everyone who bought those shitty Burger King games because they were only a few bucks (and there were millions of you) should be lining up to kiss Jeff Minter's paranoid, vengeful arse for releasing his magnum opus at the 400 MSP price point. But I won't hold my breath.

All that being said, level 64 is still one of the most keyboard-flippingly ill-conceived stages in recent memory. I wouldn't blame anyone for walking away in disgust at that point, but you really shouldn't, because it does get better (level 65 marks the first appearance of those charging lasers Stu was so keen on, for example).

PROTIP: By default, the right stick aims your "hoof shots" and the A button activates your Superzapper. I strongly suggest remapping the latter to the left trigger so you need never take your thumb off the former during play.
