While other games are good, I basically got the new computer to play Oblivion on. I have heard that there are a million mods that improve the draw distances and the menus, and I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions about which mods from those millions are the most effective and least crashy.
I didn't bother with draw distance, although most players use all kinds of mods for that shit. But for me, I know perfectly well that I can't see a fucking MOUNTAIN from a hilltop unless it's a clear day, so I'm not all that miffed about not seeing the trees on yonder peasant's lawn from two towns away. I actually turned off distant terrain so I could see the sunsets/rises better.
Oblivion is Very Pretty. It is not as Interesting as Morrowind, and you are actively punished for playing the main plot (landscapes get all ugly and you get surprised by demons while you're mixing herb and whatnot.) The main reason to play is so you can get used to the control scheme in time for the inevitable Total Morrowind Conversion. I really miss being spat upon all game like in Morrowind and I wish like hell someone would call me a swit already in Cyrodil. Plusses: a more varied terrain, lockpickier and chattier lockpicking and chatting, lots and lots of herbs to mix. |
