Likewise - I just got busy when I put the game down, so it didn't kill the experience for me or anything, but it sounds like playing it with community leveling turned off is better.

No, you fool! This will destroy the economy! Apart from the single loading screen, it's absolutely costless to travel between cities in Oblivion. Creating any kind of arbitrage opportunities without removing insta-travel or at the very least allowing enemies to regularly intercept convoys will ruin the game for any sensible person.
I could (and probably am) wrong here, but wasn't it extremely difficult to raise money in the game, early on? And I'll try to move this thread to the Elder Scrolls base tonight, in case anyone can't find it here later.
