It uses a physics engine and puts it to all kinds of fun uses, like blocks that scatter and bounce off one another like billiard balls. It also has great levels that make homage to classic games like one using a fully active space invaders game as the blocks or an asteroids level complete with the flying saucer. Probably its best feature, is that holding the right mouse button increases the effect of gravity on the ball so you can fine-tune its movement and avoid the dreaded "watch the damn ball miss the one remaining block by a pixel then try again for 10 minutes, hoping to god you hit it at the correct angle this time."
The downside is that a few ideas get overused over the course of the quest ESPECIALLY the "random shapes suspended by a cord from the top of the screen" type levels.
I dunno if I'd call this a half-life quality indie game, but it's definitely upper-tier. I'd call this the Gish of arkanoids. |
