| It is more fun, and very light and easy, so you never feel like the game is pressuring you to finish anything, and would make a really nice pick up and play game that you could play for a minute or an hour. You don't even need the stylus for the touch screen either, because all the touch menus are emulated with buttons, and as for the normal levels where you swap out Peach's 4 moods (each of which give her special powers) you can just use your thumb to tap them.
This game continues the modern tradition of Mario games by modifying the combat, so instead of only being able to jump onto enemies, you fuckin knock them the fuck out. Starting in Mario 64, they basically just added a straight up punch them in the fucking face button. For this game, you get an umbrella, sort of like the Minish Cap in the Zelda Minish Cap game, because it's an anthropfhdsfofh sentient being that occasionally gives you hints. In the modern Mushroom Kingdom, great princesses resolve conflicts with words. Words like talking parasol, and dunt. The environments are all nice and etc. It makes me think of a sort of Super Mario World spinoff, because there's the haunted house levels, some volcano levels (without having to jump onto tiny platforms over huge oceans of lava), bloo bloo. A lot of the enemies in the game are all from previous games, the blue dinosaurs you have to jump on twice from Super Mario World, the weird short fat crows from Yoshi's Island. The game really is so fawkin easy. Every level has 3 Toads "hidden" away. THE "HIDDEN" IS IN MASSIVE SARCASM QUOTES, because 60% of the time they'll be right in front of you, and the rest of the time they'll be in side paths (a pipe or doorway you'll run across halfway through a room) that has a puzzle that is incredible simple, such as use your Peach fuuuuuury to light like 4 torches to open another door to a Toad. By the way, one thing I noticed about the Peach burning with anger mood is that it makes her a giant ball of fire, and also it makes her heavier for stomping on tough switches (bloated and moody?). Anyway, sometimes a hidden Toad is really just up on another platform. It is almost shocking how not hidden they are. There have been about 2 levels so far where I had to actually look to find one of them. Also scattered around levels are minigames. And I don't mean you wander into a room and suddenly it's a minigame room. I mean you'll be walking along, and there will be a bubble that says "minigame" in it, and when you hit it, it just adds the minigame to the main menu. And that's it. It is just a collectable. There only seem to be 3 minigames to collect also, like one where you lead a Toad through a burning area by dragging him with the stylus, which responds very well and is pretty fun actually. When you get a minigame, it is 1 level, and then you buy the next levels (really just higher difficulty versions of the same thing) with gold from the shop, which seems kind of weird because the only reason you'd do this is either for the fun of it or just blow the gold you have because you don't have anything else to buy. The other minigame is one where you make Toad jump over enemies and pits by blowing on the microphone, which is again surprisingly responsive and easy to control for a game that involves blowing on your DS as the form of controlling it. There are other minor minigames scattered around. Before every world's boss battle, there's a minigame where you have to get Peach through a vertical corridor. Usually she moves on her own and you have to operate some mechanic with the touchscreen to get her through, which is one of the only times in the game you actually need to use the stylus. These minigames are quite fun and easy though. The haunted house boss starts after a short minigame where Peach floats down a corridor, and you use the stylus to beat the shit out of boos before they can get past the touch screen to the upper screen where Peach is. You can destroy them boos if you just slash back and forth with the stylus on each of them. Pretty nice. So the shop has handy stuff, like umbrella upgrades, and upgrades to your max health and magic (or vibe, whatever). Then it has a bunch of kind of worthless shit, like puzzle pieces. The puzzle pieces are for a puzzle minigame, where you get like 8 pieces and put together a puzzle. And you don't even get gold for it like the official minigames do. So, don't fuckin spend money on puzzle pieces when you still have health and vibe upgrades you could buy. That is fucked up. On a final note, the animations are all very nice, and again just make me think that the Nintendo DS is what the N64 would've been like if they actually made more than 5 good games for it (and 100 fuckin shitty godawful ripoff piece of shit games which all cost $50 each). But anyway, whenever Peach climbs a ladder or falls down a pit, she always keeps her dress down. It is just the slightest bit disappointing, because when she's falling off some platforms just once I would like to see that skirt fly over her head and check out her sweet sweet PUSAY HA HA YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL YEAH DAWG HIGH FIVE (BRO) But I guess that would not be appropriate. :( Anyway if I was going to give this game a score I would give it an 8.8. I'm not even finished with it but I imagine the rest of the game is basically continuing in the same idea and will continue to be very light casual fun. |
