Your Peach powers, activated by changing her moods on the bottom touch screen (4 hearts with expressions in them) are usually used for solving the incredibly simple puzzles. Like a talking block at the beginning will point out a wood bridge, and say THAT BRIDGE LOOKS PRETTY FLIMSY I BET IT WOULD BURN DOWN IF EXPOSED TO FIRE. And there's never any crazy trick like NO DON'T BURN THAT BRIDGE DOWN YET. Every bridge in the game you see, burn it on sight, no consequences. And the fire power is the one that makes Peach all pissed off and stomping angrily (for stompy damage).
The other vaguely sexist mood is the crying one where Peach bursts into giant sprays of tears, which you use to either water plants to make them grow to reach higher areas, or a water wheel which you spin with the crying spray which will open a door somewhere so you can find another Toad somewhere. And that's about as complicated as the puzzles get. In Wario World 4, you'd have to rush through a timed version of a level to get some sort of bonus unlockable or something. In this, you just walk up to it and get it. Maybe they figured a game where you play the princess should not be deceptively hard, it should instead be deceptively easy. Like the Kirby games (which are actually easier because you can't even fall into pits unless you are a total dummy in the Kirby games).
As you go on you find puzzles that use the moods differently. In the volcano land you'll sometimes find a room that's all filled with smoke which damages you gradually, unless you use the joy mood, which usually spins you around to damage enemies and then lets you fly at will. In the smoke rooms, your whirlwind move will clear the smoke from the room. Your crying mood not only waters things, but when you are crying your movement speed cranks way up, so you can use it to run (and cry) over a bunch of instant-fall donut platforms, which is kind of funny to watch also.
Anyway I just thought the way they use the mood mechanic was pretty cool, and they seem to have kept coming up with new uses for them as the game continues. |
