Indie Caltroppers were right about the New Pornographers live by Lizard_King 10/30/2007, 11:03pm PDT
They pretty much rocked my face off. I think they set a personal record for me as oldest band I've ever seen live. I still think I am just not the target audience for a band with so many elements...sometimes it just felt like a novelty act. The lead guitarist and the chick lead singer really needed some more space to exercise their talent. But overall, an excellent experience.

I missed the first opening act, but the second came close to upstaging the NP. Emma Pollock had a great set of pipes and some good songs, and her band had some of that focus that I felt was missing from a lot of the headliner's songs. Plus, they were hungrier, and you could feel it in the way they played. They really wanted to win the crowd over, not with gimmicks but with a band that worked well together. I picked up the album, and I think it was the high point of the evening.
