Opening score: 10

Score after the huge sewer warrens level and losing my fucking apartment for 8 hours: 0

Final score after finding my hidden apartment: 9

Basically this is a good game. The people who made this did a good job despite the flaws that still exist (which seems pretty typical of hugantic tremundous singleplayer rpgs), and when the game works its an amazing experience.

I would have to say that the source engine definitly helps the game world a lot. The developers here clearly couldn't use the engine to its full potential, but I think they did a great job and worked around some of their bigger problems to deliver a more stable game (wow).

The story is also pretty interesting, but who cares read a book or something if you want story. Apparently this game doesn't reveal many plot points from the main VTM storyline, but there is a lot of plot STUFF all over the place from the characters, I dunno whats new in the story. The writing is at least well done, which is nice.

As a nosferatu, I had a lot of play options available to me, so my character was very customizable and modular or whatever. So I was able to use a combination of stealth (which actually works decently in this game, but is a lot harder without obfuscate), combat, and a tiny amount of conversational abilities to persuade and occasionally intimidate. In my game I focused on stealth hacking/lockpick skills and firearms/melee combat skills. The other 7 playable clan characters can basically be molded anyway you want, but they also all have certain restrictions based on their clan origins. The most combat heavy clans arent as good at stealth or chatting/hacking, altho you can still put experience points into those.

I dunno if anyone remembers some of the prerelease interviews with the devs saying how you can get through the whole game using only dialouge options, but that's basically wrong. The dialoug abilities do make some tasks easier but combat is a requirement in this game and you should make sure to put some experience in the hand to hand combat skills naturally. This is fine by me because a whole rpg game using the source engine based around text and exploration would be a giant waste of technology.

There are a lot of minor flaws, and a lot of major attributes to this game. I would absolutly say that it's worth buying. I just wish I had a clan specific walkthru first.
