Forum Overview :: Are Games Art?

Yeah I don't mean to be too hard on these things, I just get impatient because it seems like the people who get all focused on making artistic games are often not the people who have much knowledge about algorithms, and they try to cram these huge metaphors into really simple little game mechanisms that can't hold them without a lot of help from the player. It seems like all the focus is on sketching some model of reality with game mechanics in the simplest possible way, as if the player's job is more to absorb an idea via the computer and then explore it in discussion with other people, than to explore it while actually playing the game.
