...the point where you finally get a fucking Capsule Drive to fly out of the starting system. The entire first act you're stuck with a shitty tugboat ship in a single system with crap weapons. Sitting around and shooting up cargo ships coming out of a jumppoint bored me to tears because you rarely ever got what you needed to get a badass plasma-spewing machine gun (which only came with 200 rounds and if it ran out mid-mission you were FUCKED), and the realistic physics engine was pure sodomy. Getting the two little mini-ships crewed by Bitch 1 and Bitch 2 helped things for a couple of missions, but there were still weird instances where I was supposed to do shit like push a crate full of munitions into a 360 degree firing turret to kill it or do things the hard way and just try and blow it up with my guns (which worked after 75 reloads..still a better use of my time than trying to fling a fucking crate at a turret and missing wildly every time)

The "pirating" aspect of the game was simply sitting at jumpgates waiting until the broken AI caused transport ships to bungle into each other. If you sat around eventually two transports would collide and destroy one another, spilling all their cargo that you could pick up without getting attacked by the escorts. That was really the only realistic way to pirate. This exploit allowed you to collect tons of loot so you could go back to base and realize that there is no currency (only bartering) so you'd be lacking the one or two needed trade items (out of ten or more) to get equipment you didn't need because despite the appearing of tons of customizable components with all sorts of stats, everything was broken and changed nothing no matter what you had equipped so the "correct" setup was always just as many rapid fire PBCs as you could fit.

Ammo? I think you chose the wrong gun.

The last straw was where I was so desperate for a new fucking ship that didn't look like a piece of shit and had more than two hardpoints that I looked up the mission string that gives it to you on GameFAQs. It was a blockade run and was absolutely unbeatable with my piece of crap tug.

Be very glad you quit then because the main storyline missions get infinitely more ridiculous and half the time some trigger glitch rendered them unwinnable. The most impossible missions in the game were always the TRAINING missions, which always involved crates. Steal this crate without being seen by other ships, fling this crate at something, figure out some gay game of Memory played as you shoot a tic tac toe grid of crates (I shit you not). I quit on the multi-part, 2 hours long mission where you had to chase off Marauders and follow them through a couple gates back to base. Every neutral and friendly ship in the game attacks them and will always slaughter them before they go through a gate, forcing you to ruin your standings by killing the friendlies so you can cover the Marauders, which doesn't even matter since the sheer number of ships at each gate ensures that the Marauders would die. Through some miracle they managed not to die (after 20 tries) and then some vital trigger gitched and failed to advance the mission.

Fuck this game
