How long does it take to gain a level in WoW? I've never played it. When you say you have a level 30 mage, can that be done (by a reasonable adult with a job) in a week or two? A day? I'm amazed at how addicting this game is, but it's probably best for me if I don't get playing to see why for myself.

I am going to let an expert answer this question for you.
My experience is that it takes sommat longer if you are doing anything but levelling - ex: battlegrounds, fishing, auction house faggotry, fucking around in town and griefing the locals; these are part of the rich tapestry of being a moron online. A reasonable adult with a job, but maybe not a needy spouse or children, can expect to hit level 30 in two weeks assuming he splurges a bit on the weekends and doesn't pick a hard-to-play class.
Things that are easy: hunters, warlocks, paladins (in that order.)
Hunters: ranged damage, have meatshield pet who attacts all the monsters, and (most important, most underappreciated) tracking abilities so you can see all the monsters on your minimap. I can't tell you hard enough how much tracking makes WoW easy: you only get into Oh Shit Too Many Enemies if you are a complete nub, you always know which way is the safe way to run, and you can always find the impossible-to-find quest monsters.
Warlocks: damage-over-time high emperors. They also have pets, and the pets generally have cooler powahs than hunter pets, but only one of the pets is as hunterly good at holding monster hate. Warlocks have massive, massive, huge pools of hp and mana and can basically interchange them like so much Master Of Magic Alchemy perk. They are hard to kill and come with a variety of nightmarish things they can do to other players: a warlock will dump a pile of dot on you, then fear you so you can't control your character's movements (or do anything to heal yourself.) By the time you get out of your fearmode, you're already dead.
Paladins are essentially heavily armored healers, but they have lower dmg output. In battlegrounds, a pair of skillful paladins working together will form a spectacularly invincible unit. They will run that WSG flag wherever they fuckin feel like it! People will always want to party with you, since you're both a tank and a healer. However they must be very dull to level since it takes you so long to put a hurt on someone. Also, they have lots of gay class-specific quests. |
