And that's for same level monsters! And I was fucked if there was more than one of them! Meanwhile, as a hunter I can and do solo same-level elite mobs without being totally spent at the end. Hunters hit things 10 levels higher than they are; I remember once my level 28 hunter was hanging out in Desolace rubbing out groups of big thunder lizards that were 37/38 and my priest-playing brother watched with a curdling expression. A priest sees a line of resists ten pages long once he tries anything more than three levels above him.

You have to have three mobs 10 levels higher than you on a hunter before you start to feel the same kind of crunch mages feel all the time.

I am not denying that fire mages will output a lot of damage. But a lot of that damage 1) gets resisted and 2) is AOE, so if I'm not in the A, I am not going to feel the E. As a PVP-slanted player I cheerfully note that most alliance mages will try like hell to kill my pet before they kill me, and the pet has massive and cheap elemental resistances. Priests are much better at killing in PVP, and a fire mage is going to get fucked because he can't control where his enemies are very well except by killing them (frost or frost/arcane are a much better PVP specs.)

In conclusion: I would never go back to a mage. If I try another class any time soon, I'm gonna be a rogue!
