Doesn't seem that bad. It fixes a lot of stuff that needed fixing, but I'd say it seems like that for every 2 improvements they made 1 thing worse.
+ Naval units more useful.
Battleships can now move and fire in the same turn, meaning they can rape inland forces without spending ten turns hovering one space out of rocket range. Also planes launched from carrier can move that turn instead of waiting.
+ Neotanks gone
Fucking fuck those overpowered queermobiles. They got rid of them but kept the megatank, which is how it should have been.
- Story
Good god is it awful, even by typical Japanese "WAR IS BAD!" standards. It makes the Ace Combat games seem indifferent by comparison.
+ Fog of war change
You now see into every woods space that you pass, not just the one you end your movement in. Units destroyed during your turn keep their vision until the end of the turn. This really helps breaking those "don't you dare move" turtle stalemates.
+ Online play
Some strange choices for restrictions, but it's still there.
- Questionable units
The old games had a perfect balance of units, so whenever you add new ones they tend to either be redundant or make previous units obsolete (neotanks > medium tanks). Here you have the motorcycle, which is much faster infantry that can still capture cities and only costs 1000 more so I'm not sure why you'd bother with regular infantry anymore. You also have the duster, a prop plane that can attack both air and ground units, and it's only a little more expensive than an attack chopper so I'm not sure why you'd bother with those anymore. The anti-tank gun is dumb because in theory it's overpowered but in practice it's not really worth it. On paper it's overpowered because it's exactly like an artillery unit only it does more damage to tanks and can shoot back in direct combat. It's not worth it because it's twice as expensive as artillery but doesn't do as much damage as two artillery, plus its direct combat counter-attack aint so great.
