The noise from plane, train, and bus engines hides bass, so rap, and some bass heavy electronica lose a lot when listened to in this environment. Do the smart thing and listen to guitar heavy folk when travelling. In addition to being audible, it'll also usually be appropriate. For my money, I recommend the music of Englishman Jim Noir. Here's one song that I hope you won't find too gay.
