| You know that Bioware behaved like a bunch of tightasses about money on this one because it's clear the voice actors are getting paid by the word, hence most of the Shephard dialogue being monosyllabic. I don't quite grasp how this bridges the gap between Mass Effect and anything, because it's just a cold opening with you flying past an asteroid and your ship computer announcing that it's going to plow itself into a planet. Then you drop your little land rover/moon buggy on it and it's basically an extended unexplored planet explore-around for the next thirty minutes. The only "new" content in this is the nice-looking skybox, the big-ass rocket boosters, and the Batarian uglies, who for some reason sound less like the Osama Bin Ladens of the universe and more like pissed off Klingons. Otherwise, the structures you enter are your generic one-room gymnasiums with boxes in it you've encountered in almost every single sidequest.
I cleared one out of three of the objectives and was so unimpressed I shut it off. Maybe it gets better around the end but somehow I doubt it. Oh, and you can't access it from the main menu, so if your last save was somewhere past Ilos or before you can start puttering around the galaxy in your spaceship, you're going to have to sit through a few hours of shit you've already played through (it's not worth it). If you haven't already beaten Mass Effect several times over, yeah, pick this up and you can extend your playtime about thirty minutes or so. Otherwise, just read the one page summary and move on. |
