Recommend me a new webhost and tell me how to switch to it by Fullofkittens 03/17/2008, 3:54pm PDT
It is time for me to switch webhosts. As much as I enjoy poenews, poehosting is expensive as hell. I'm paying like $200 a year for 1 GB of space, and it's shitty. I can't even access my email anymore, and the 20,000+ spam messages (and growing) are shrinking the space I have for hosting files. They've got my 1000 bucks, it's time to move to something cheaper (and better?).

2 questions!

#1: Which webhost do you recommend?

Keep in mind that I barely use the site. I mostly use it as a way to makes files available to people that's classier than yousendit. My technical requirements are not demanding. I want lots of space, email (not critical), and whatever web features I can get for cheap. Mostly I want lots of space, for cheap.

#2: How can I transfer my domain name to the new place?

Can I do this? This might be a dumb question. I don't really understand how the internet works (which is not a good omen for the web product that I am in charge of testing, BTW) - all I know is that I registered stackablemusic through poehosting. I assume that, because I paid the money, I get to keep the name? Do I have to pay again? What am I supposed to tell the new place if and when I find one (based on your recommendations!)?

Dreamhost. They'll tell you the new DNS IP address for your domain. NT by Fussbett 03/17/2008, 10:10pm PDT NEW
You'll have to enter that IP into the domain info at poehosting. No charge. NT by Fussbett 03/17/2008, 10:10pm PDT NEW
