I used the italics for a reason. by Mischief Maker 04/02/2008, 8:24pm PDT
So I just finished watching it (the entire thing is on Youtube broken into 9-minute chunks) and I've got to say this is my favorite post-apocalyptic sci fi movie to date.

There were no idiot plot moments. The creepy london brought to a screeching silent halt is made even creepier by the fact that the citizens AREN'T dead. It deals with the horrible moral decisions to be made without 2X4 to the face obviousness. No one is absolutely good and no one is absolutely evil, it's just falliable human beings trying to retain their humanity in a situation where their long term survival is an open question. And the titular triffids are wisely not used as the centerpiece of the film, but as a horror always lurking in the distance and closing in on the unwary. Hell, even the seeming Deus Ex Machina that sets the events in motion has a decent explanation that plays into the movie's theme of mankind brought down by its own hubris.

It was creepy, interesting, and never made me feel insulted. Recommended.
