| If you are crying for yourself, and not to earn the sympathy of others (which is why I usually cry), consider crying in your car at an airport. Apart from a funeral, it's the only place it won't look weird, and unlike a funeral, an airport's an energizing, positive place to be. I'd happily have half my ashes scattered at Christchurch airport.
They didn't give a shit about web programming but I was called out over a lie I made about graduating high school, which only came about due to concerns about my fit with teh company anyway. Our great labour laws allow employers to fire employees almost without reason in their first three months, so they didn't have to go to the bother of humiliating me and making me look like a drop-out liar, but I'm sure it makes things easier for them. There is more to it, but it's all devious and depressing and probably boring. I've spent the last few days planning my exile to Brisbane. I can't make any excuses for this to the many people I'm not close enough to be honest with, except to say that I think anyone under that much pressure confronted by people they respect and fear on a matter they're ashamed of will lie reflexively, and if I were able to go back, I still don't think I'd be strong enough to try and make good of the truth. I've been stood down until the big boss gets back on Monday. If I lose the job, I will cry and then go to Australia and learn to surf and marry an Australian girl. |
