Only halfway through the 2nd case, so who knows

+ It cannot be understated how much things are improved by getting rid of Maya and all the psychic crap.

- I'm not sure replacing the psychic crap with magical body language reading was the way to go. Can't we have a lawyer hero that just figures shit out with logic instead of some lame mini-game super power?

- The ability to read body language is made possible by a magical bracelet =(. At least the psychic gem was trying to break up the monotony of the investigation portions and was never brought into the actual trial. Why did they change that? Why couldn't they use the 3D crime scene recreations for the investigation portions?

- Other characters take over solving the case for you at the end, it's just not a ghost this time

+ Graphics are better!

- The first (real) case starts me out searching for a teenage girl's stolen panties

- Holy fucking flashbacks! Flashbacks to revisit some small obscure statement from an hour ago? Fine. Flashbacks that revisit entire speeches made 5 minutes ago? No.

- The first case:

+ The music is technically higher quality

- A lot of the music falls flat. It either doesn't match the scene going on, or it lacks that PUNCH that the other games had when you started cracking a lying scumbag witness and action lines were flying everywhere and heads exploding.

This seems like a list of mostly negatives, but count getting rid of animoo Maya as five positives.

1st case spoilers!

Busting the killer hinges entirely on his insane OCD need to tip his hand with purple prose. The fact that he knew what color the cards were and the victim being bald could have been explained away with "I eat with Phoenix there a lot, and I saw the guy's forehead as I passed him". Everyone will have to guess when it comes time to point out the killer, because no way would they remember him calling the cards blue, and even if they did no one would think it odd since he's a regular at the restaurant.
