THE SHNIBBULAR ONE, OOM


Here's what happened, for what is hopefully the last time I will ever have to explain this:

At the first OMM convention prior to my being involved with V at all, she was cheating on her then-boyfriend with Umberto - this would be in 1998 or 1999 or something. Then, 12-18 months later, in December of 2000 I moved in with Veronica after she and the guy she had been cheating on broke up - Umberto and her had broken up before this date. Generally speaking Umberto and her weren't too keen on other people knowing they had an affair ever at all. Fast forward to late August 2004 or whenever - some random douchebag posted a link to Kthor's post that mentioned the affair in passing, citing this as evidence that V was a whore (presumably because she'd had an affair). V was pretty fed up with Caltrops at the time, took exception to being called a whore over an affair she'd had four years ago when she wasn't even any longer with the guy she'd cheated on, all on a site whose bill she was footing. She called up the hosting company, had them clear out the account and told them to clear up the backups. Then she told me to delete my backups - I protested, but ultimately lost that argument since she kind of foots the bill for the food I eat to stay alive, and I wasn't exactly thrilled with Caltrops at the time anyway myself and wasn't about to starve to death for it.

I thought that she didn't know about two different sets of archives I'd stashed away - one on a hidden network share and an older copy on a CD-R, but I was wrong on both counts. The only backup she DIDN'T know about, in fact, was one that was taken only a month after caltrops.com went live. I did manage to convince her to let me send Jonesy a copy of all the articles HTML/graphics, though.

I think that covers everything.

Timeline:

1998/99 - First OMMcon, Veronica and Umberto are having affair behind Lobster's back. Senor Barborito is a 19-year-old shitling just getting out of his goth phase.
2000 - Umberto and Veronica break up
- Lobster and Veronica break up
- Senor Barborito moves in with Veronica 5 months later
2004 - Kthor writes a post mentioning V and Umberto's affair in passing
- Some douchebag cites Kthor's post as primary evidence in Veronica vs Whoredom
- Veronica issues summary judgement, finds Caltrops.com in contempt, deletes Caltrops.com and instructs Senor Barborito to remove all backups on pain of death by starvation
- Senor Barborito deletes all backups save two because he is a pussy, Veronica deletes/destroys remaining two backups
- Site is rebuilt in two days, Senor Barborito leaves Caltrops and actually manages to stop reading it except for when people IM him with URLs.

In other news - Hi! Good to see you again. How's the AIDS down there?
