You didn't correctly express the horribleness of this video. It actually UNsells things. I want to play Rock Band less after seeing this as it does nothing but remind us how fucking gay this whole genre is, and how stupid we look. Why is the horribleness important to point out? It's another indicator that Activison and Neversoft are unaware about what makes these games good. We could be charitable and write off this video as the result of the suits in marketing with their $5 lattes who don't understand what real gamers want (answer: the touch of a woman). But the evidence is getting overwhelming. --> Brutal difficulty and awful note charts catering to the hardcore --> Boss battles and powerups --> Aerosmith --> Embarrassing performance video --> GHWT?!?! So far the pros of GHWT would seem to be the Create-a-Rocker, and the quieter drums with raised cymbals. Cons are the huge cost of getting more incompatible hardware, Guitar Hero's horrible implementation of DLC, and Neversoft's track record of sucking. I didn't put the song maker into either list as it'll be entertaining to a few FulloKittens of the world, but impenetrable for most, and the songs disinteresting to all. Tracking songs is hard as fuck, and while the console interface might make this easier, the canned samples will surely remove what creativity does come out of the TRACKING COMMUNITY. A community that already no one cares about outside Scandinavia. Ask yourself this: do you like the Rock Band indie music songs made by semi-professional musicians? Imagine instrumentals of stitched together samples made by the fully-unemployed non-musicians. |
