Just so everyone is aware, here is the nasty remark in question:

Hillary: Here's a good one. Helen Clark, former prime minister of New Zealand: her opponents have observed that in the event of a nuclear war, the two things that will emerge from the rubble are the cockroaches and Helen Clark.

I approve of this joke: it is gender-neutral and obviously self-mocking as much as anything. Calling it "something on the lines of the Hillary nutcrackers" is whole cloth.

To get the same effect from a manspective, imagine John McCain saying something like "Ronald Reagan was kind of old to be president, wasn't he?"
