Here and here.
My coworker's take: WHY WON’T YOU WORSHIP THIS ONCE-GREAT NOW-AVERAGE PLAYER FROM ANOTHER TEAM THAT’S GOING TO BE AN ADEQUATE STOPGAP FOR A YEAR AND BEST CASE SCENARIO CAUSE YOUR TEAM TO WIN NINE GAMES INSTEAD OF SIX, THUS MAKING YOUR DRAFT PICK LATER, REDUCING YOUR ABILITY TO DRAFT A LONG TERM SOLUTION TO YOUR QUARTERBACKING PROBLEMS, OH WAIT YOU’RE NOT GOING TO DRAFT A GOOD QUARTERBACK AT ANY DRAFT POSITION BECAUSE YOU’RE THE FUCKING JETS
He also points out that King is a fag.
I love that he’s so defiant. “I take nothing back.” Take THAT Jets fans! Peter King doesn’t EVEN want to hear it. So, just in case a deluge of “what great Jets fans” stories comes at us, let’s all agree not to make Peter King read them.
It isn't just that his tedious man-lust for Favre is on display here, it's the fact that he honestly can't understand why people would take their kids on vacation rather than go to a fucking pre-season football game. Favre could have played the ENTIRE GAME and I would have hoped that every single parent, if they didn't bring their kids to the game (which can be fun for small kids), spent time with their children instead being anywhere near that nonsense. The kids are going to grow up in the NY/NJ area, so they will probably be unlikable whether dad is around or not, but still.
It's also a fairly funny window into how important King thinks he and his fellow sportswriters are. All they did for the last month or so was jerk each other off about Favre; of course everyone should go to the game - it's important. Thinking otherwise might make that sad fuck realize the pointlessness of his wasted life.
King only gets read because there are so few guys who watch the games on Sunday and write about it (and have it finished) first thing on Monday. There is a guy doing a similar thing on Deadspin during the season who is much more readable. (I mean, anyone would be, but still.) I think King is benefitting by being so terrible - he's actually becoming more famous and powerful because of this. Sportswriting is whatever the opposite of a meritocracy is.
