you can indeed offline coop (you share the screen, which can occasionally get a little cumbersome but is made up for in the giant amounts of paired dual purpose asskicking you deal out together), and basically the game is like 2 or 3 times easier, as the "henchman" second player keeps all his spells and levels to beat badguys asses with, as well as getting a choice between some stock level appropriate weapons (steel cutlass and a masterwork clockwork rifle)
I was able to concentrate my efforts on using the surround effect of my slow time spell while joh used his really high level shooting skills (yes, ranged combat is vastly improved over the old game) to chain a zillion headshots as enemies flopped ragdoll style head over heels backwards in midair in slow motion WHILE TAKING SHOT AFTER SHOT DIRECTLY TO THE EYE SOCKETS
Even better was when there was such a huge clusterfuck of enemies, and the guy in front would take the first 20 headshots and start flipping over everyone and eventually they'd all start getting sprayed with random gunfire as I would just start mashing the Y button over and over.
