Like Motherhead mentioned, I'm waiting for PCI express to be widespread before upgrading. I just bought a 9800 pro and an xp 2800+ ($315) to tide my socket A system over for the next year or 2 (and that mainly because a Ti 4200 does not play Far Cry). Hopefully the next time I find a game I want to play that I can't BTX and PCIe will be predominiant.
Glancing at reviews, it seems the VIA and Nvidia chipsets are about even on performance, but the Nvidia 250Gb has the most toys.
If you're a more casual computer user the Shuttle SFF boxes are pretty nice, the main drawback is only one 3.5" and one 5.25" bay, for which you trade noise and portability. |
