If Ozymandias, WHO IS THE BAD GUY IN THE COMIC BOOK AND MOVIE (OKAY NOW DON'T GO SEE IT, LOOK WHAT IT MADE ME DO TO MY MONOCLE COLLECTION), perhaps instead killed specifically people under 25, then this reviewer would be okay and would have enjoyed the movie, as long as the target of extermination was young people.

Also it seems stupid, but possibly a writer for the magazine called the New Yorker was all offended and pissy about New York being the target of a giant explosion attack thing that kills a bunch of people (but traffic still sucks in the morning).

Actually, I think Anthony Lane's British -- usually he's a pretty good critic to read and highly entertaining, although I think by default he hates most comic book-to-movie adaptations, as well he should.

No, no... no. He's terrible, and so is Denby. The New Yorker obviously hates movies and doesn't miss a chance to point it out, putting them on the very last page of the magazine (excluding their absolute least-favorite content: the user-generated cartoon captions some consultant told them to add to save their magazine from extinction), even after opera, literature, and TELEVISION reviews. Every review is a complete delineation of a movies' plot from beginning to end, almost as if the hopeless attempts by Hollywood to tell a story should be dismissed at the outset so we can concentrate instead on how badly they fucked everything else up. Movies are artless crap appreciated only by the very lowest of humans, and the only reason to talk about them in the New Yorker to remind ourselves that they and their fans exist and we should be careful to avoid them even if it means hailing a cab directly from the steps of Lincoln Center although it's only a couple of blocks to the Upper West.
