To be fair, just about every RTS game with epochs/ages incorporated into it has this flaw. Sometimes, it's hillarious and fun. Sinking a battleship with a trebuchet in Empire Earth is funny, unless you have the battleship. Other great moments in Empire Earth: trying to figure out which medieval cannon was best suited to handle the WWI tanks invading my village. Answer: the culverin (warning: may not be historically accurate). And shelling the fuck out of nano-age Mechs (extra gay Empire Earth name: "Cybers") with WWII artillery was very rewarding. Bad moments: watching age-of-sail cannonballs sink my submarines. Like an idiot, I confused the reality of magic with the science fiction of the real world and assumed my subs would be safe.

Rereading this post, I notice that I loved that game but I sucked at it. :(

Oh yeah, my point. In most RTS games, your units die real fast and/or upgrade to better shit. In Civ III, I remember my spearman scout was still a spearman scout 5000 years and 60 real minutes later.
