Re: Holy crap, Harvester

it wasn't as good as the first, but it was a good proof-of-concept that games stacked with FMV (or as we refer to them nowadays, "anime/CG cutscenes") can still provide a worthwhile gameplay experience. Good thing, too, because after Phantasmagoria, I was just about ready to give up on adventure games completely. (Hey, was Roberta Williams responsible for that mess?)
It was some other woman she was impressed with I believe. I'm trying to find a copy of those games just to see how laughably bad they are, plus I'm a stickler for bad FMV games (horror ones especially, anyone remember Harvester?).
I only saw a bit of that, thanks to a friend who hadn't the faintest clue what the hell a "game review" was and inevitably bought mounds of shitty games based solely on interesting screenshots on the box. What I saw, however, was pure shit.
Me and my friend were unbelievably psyched over that game ever since the first screenshots on the first issue of PC gamer. It promised to be a grisly horror adventure game with Mortal Kombat type 2D fighting sequences and feature voices for all the lines (a big deal back in '94). It sounded like the greatest thing in the world (the fact that we were 14 at the time might have had something to do with it). We even hung up a magazine ad for it (with the grim reaper) on the wall with "coming Summer '94". This was soon replaced with the "coming Fall '94" ad, followed by the "coming Winter '95" edition until eventually we just left up the "coming soon" copy. Years passed, it faded to vaporware. Some rumors that it had received a graphical overhaul went unheard, E3 press releases were laughed off. Then one day in '97 I noticed it lying in the bargain bin for $20. The game I had drempt of for 2 years straight was released straight to bargain bin. I got it as a gag gift. Holy fucking shit was it bad This ranked right up there with Mechwarrior as the most looked foward to game ever on young FABIO's wish list. Figures that both of them were delayed over 3 years.
