This was the first issue. A raccoon had turned my chimney into her goddamn birthing bungalow. That's MY house! Nice of her to add a second automatic garage fucking door to it. I don't have a ladder that can get me onto the roof, and even if I did, I wasn't 100% certain as to what I was going to do once up there. Throw a lit bomb down there? Dicey! I called a couple places that offered critter control, but they were as bored as that raccoon was, when it deigned to go out and sunbathe on my roof during the hotter days of spring. They are able to turn business down this time of year, I guess. I finally got someone to agree to come out and investigate. The gentleman dropped a urine-soaked rag down the chimney, and slammed a 10' pole around in there. I know a lot of you are playing Team Fortress 2 right now, and I think some of you may be going, "heh" when you get the Jarate power-up. Well, it really happened to me. A jar of urine was used to solve a problem with my house, and I won't ever want to talk about it after this thread, either. This was apparently all it took. The guy made a second visit to check it out, but because he showed up four days after he said I should expect him, I didn't have the new siding I painted ready for him. So there's a piece of sheet metal or something where the hole is, up top. I still have no way of getting up there, so there's exposed metal showing. Maybe that'd be acceptable if Ratchet patched up a shitty Autobot, like Sunstreaker, in the middle of a war for our planet's very survival, but this is not that. Hopefully a neighbor will let me use one of their ladders later today. I was meant to go to bed an hour ago, but my hot water tank has started leaking. I know right where the leak is coming from, and it seems to me that the solution is at least straight-forward: "get a new water tank." It was 20 years old, so I guess I can't really complain. The leak is slow enough where I might be able to grab some sleep before calling... I don't know, Sears or something tomorrow. But here's hoping I don't wake up in that water bed I never wanted. the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey! |
