This is mostly in response to accusations that I am missed.


  • Shisha bars popping up everywhere: didn't like them, felt racist for thinking that, decided I would feel the same if they were Contemporary Christian Rock bars, felt smug.

  • Teenage white girls in Shisha bars: clearly, the generations that came before did everything cool, and the only rebellion left is embracing theocracy in "bars" with no alcohol.

  • Food labeling standards: all food products should be accompanied by a graph showing the relative size of that product over the last two years.

  • Raver story from reddit:
    I went out and bought a bunch of those pills where you put them in water and they turn into a sponge dinosaur. I would walk up to kids who were just frying, tell them to let it dissolve on their tongue, and pop one in their mouth. You'd see them go from excited to confused to complete fucking mindbroken in about thirty seconds, then they'd spit out this sponge triceratops and their eyes would be as wide as dinner plates.

  • Charlize Theron's yearbook picture: I came.

  • Oracle: in response to the improving quality of free databases, Oracle has been hoovering up every major database application in a dozen different vertical markets, along with MySQL, the company most likely to attack them for such blatant monopolism.

  • Pitchfork's Top of the 90s: the best rap song is not as good as the 100th best non-rap song. Without affirmative action, there would be no rap in the top 20.

  • Scrabble: months ago, I asked Fussbett what he thought it would cost to buy it from Hasbro. His guess? "A lot." If you can afford it, I would recommend making this acquisition, because this game is ready for a radical modernization. Last week some dudes illustrated my point.

  • Poker: haven't played online in ages, wasn't winning ("I'm not superstitious, but I avoid situations where I don't win" --Barry Greenstein). I had $300 in my account and burned it in a fairly brief session of "Rush Poker," a house-friendly variant that I will not explain here. High Stakes Poker remains the best show on TV, season six was the best of the bunch and aired earlier this year.

  • Women: I recently had the opportunity to hit on an unattainable from my teenage years. It didn't go well, but I came away feeling superior to her and therefore count it as a victory. She has since moved in with a 40-year-old man who lives with his grandmother and gets an allowance from his parents.

  • Visio: got pushed into doing this last year by my genius boss (I protested). It's not that hard. Those expensive Edward Tufte books finally earned their keep.

  • Cat: I have one. Stone cold killer.

  • Aging: I went to a movie for the first time in over a year, thinking "I wonder which movie this won't be as good as." I miss being too ignorant to recognize a bad one.
