There is something that really bothers me quite a bit and I have decided to speak about it. I have seen a number of people who appear on television, and blithely proceed to announce, as if it was a Papal Bull, or the official opinion delivered ex-cathedra from God almighty Himself, that adults are not supposed to put ketchup on their hot dogs, and that adults should not eat hot dogs with ketchup on them.
I mean, the way these people announce this when they're interviewed on television, it's like they proceed to make the use of ketchup on a hot dog by an adult sound like it's a sin or a moral failing bordering on criminal behavior. One woman basically said that "you shouldn't be putting ketchup on a hot dog if you're over 12." I'd like to know who the hell gave her the authority to blithely declare that adults are not allowed to put ketchup on a hot dog? And where are they getting this from? I've heard no public announcements declaring catchup to be banned as a condiment used by adults on hot dogs.
I resent these people who just decide for no logical reason, to come out and make some declaration of a reasonable practice as being somehow disgusting, disreputable, or demeaning. As if an adult who uses ketchup on a hot dog is some sort of unforgivable reprobate. I've never heard any of these people who make this kind of a claim ever give any reason for their claim other then they just think people for adults should not put ketchup on hot dogs.
Myself, personally, I tend to put chili and cheese on hot dogs, sometimes onions and sauerkraut, but occasionally I will put ketchup on a hot dog, and I do not see what is wrong with this, or why some people go all the trouble to come out and make an opinion of this nature.
It's funny, because I remember in one of the Dirty Harry films, probably the original one, where Harry, disgusted over a very violent killing, criticized another police officer whom he saw eating a hot dog with ketchup on it, saying " nobody, I mean nobody, eats a hot dog with ketchup on it." I think his opinion was you're only supposed to use mustard. In his case, I can understand; Harry didn't really want to admit he was sickened and disgusted by the violent killing and so took it out on his partner's choice in cuisine.
