I had a really bad day today, and it's only 11:40, it's not even lunch yet. by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 05/15/2014, 9:21am PDT
Well, today I woke up early so I went out. Instead of getting a sunny day, it's heavily overcast which means, if I don't take a coat it will rain cats and dogs; if I take a coat it will be too warm to need it.

So I took the coat.

I had filed three applications with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation in Baltimore which handles certain registrations. The application was mailed back to me and I got it yesterday, including the original envelope sent to them postmarked April 14. Seems that they do not take personal checks, only money orders, which they don't mention on their forms or website. So I needed to get money orders. Also, even if multiple orders are in the same envelope each order must be paid by separate check, you can't give them one for the total amount.

There is a Rite Aid about 6 blocks away so I decided to roll over there. I stop at Wells Fargo to take $100 out of the corporate checking account, because I can order bank money orders from them for $8 each or I can go literally across the street to Rite Aid and pay $0.89 each. So when I get to Rite Aid I hand the cashier $80 and ask for three money orders The machine breaks down after two of them are printed. So, the supervisor has to figure out how to back out of the transaction in order to refund me my $25.89. To make it easier, I give her 11c and tell her to just give me $26.

So I then discover it's only 10:10 which means I can run to McDonalds - which is one block from Rite Aid - and get breakfast. So I do. Only I discover than I can't open the bottle of chocolate milk, I don't have the strength in my hands to break the seal on the bottle. So, I ask one of the crew to open the two bottles for me. Then I'm eating my steak egg and cheese bagels, and when I go to have one of the milk, I also lack the strength to pull the plastic tab to break the foil seal on the bottle. I had to peel it off in order to unseal the inner bottle.

Well, I go to open the second and I can't get the tab or the foil off, so I decide I'm full anyway, I'll have it later, only now the screw cap doesn't want to go back on the bottle. With a lot of effort, I get the bottle reclosed.

Well, I could simply taken the bus to Rhode Island Station and got a money order from Giant Food at the shopping center there. Well, just as I'm going out the door, the 83 passes by, which runs about once an hour. No, couldn't have come by just two minutes later when I could have caught it.

I remember that about a couple of blocks in the other direction from Rite Aid is a 7-11 that also issues money orders. So I decide to go up there, where the sidewalk is in bad shape, in one spot I had to cut into a gas station to get around an area of broken concrete. However, in one case some stupid imbeciles installed a telephone pole such that the sidewalk crosses it on the left, that is, outside of the pole and requiring me to move close to the curb to go past it. I'm looking at the clearance and I don't think there''s enough for me to get by, Good practice dictates you install telephone poles on the sidewalk near the curb so the sidewalk passes to the right of the pole and toward the grass, this also means for wheelchair users if there wasn't enough room we can ride on the grass. If there isn't enough room on a pole where the sidewalk extends curb side, it means I have to turn around, go back to a driveway or curb cut, then come all the way up the street until i get to a driveway that is past the telephone pole.

So I finally get to the 7-11, and their price for money orders is $1.29. If it wasn't for the fact the nearest post office for that area is on the second floor of a building where the only access is a steep staircase, I could have gone to the USPS and gotten a money order for $1.00.

Going home I decide I'm not going to try to negotate that sidewalk, I just use the center lane, normally used for left turns, because I know it has to be safer to use a lane most vehicles are not using than to use the right-most traffic lane.

Part way home the chair is running out of power, so it's straining to get up the small hills on the sidewalk of Baltimore Avenue, and finally I get to the front door, unlock the handle, and the chair doesn't have enough power to cross the 1/2" metal threshhold. Well, the path from the sidewalk that is approaching the door is downhill, so I back up a little and use inertia to let the chair roll fast into the place so it jumps the threshhold.

Well the mail is here, including the replacement bottle of neuropathy vitamins so my feet don't hurt, and the bill for my American Express Charge card, which is $840.00., a bit more than I should be spending in one month (Part of the cost is the $250 I had to pay Hoverround for the first month's rental on my new power chair as my part of the 20% I have to pay. I've had my current chair for five years so I'm allowed to get a replacement. Now, however the rules are differnt. Medicare now rents chairs for 13 months then you own it.)

So I get in my room and see the clock on my wall reads 11:40, (about 1/2 hour ago), and I'm thinking how much shit I've had to put up with over about a 2 1/2-hour period, from about 9 when I left until i got home.
