I use Grub Hub and so far have been too lazy to try the other services. I spend way too much money on this. My strategy is to tip at least $5 $6 (now because of higher gas prices) $7. If it's really expensive, like sushi, I might only do 20%, but that'll still be a lot. Occasionally the driver will forget my drink, or the restaurant will send the totally wrong order (or possibly the driver grabbed the wrong thing). That's punishment for not going to the goddam store like an adult, I guess.
Once on a cold, icy morning I got a message that my order was cancelled. I asked why and they said nobody wanted to deliver it. I guess that's fair, I hadn't realized how shitty the weather was.
Why do the pizza places and the chinese restaurants ignore my "please don't knock, just text" instructions? One guy was just banging on the door like he had to use the bathroom. My little dog lost her mind. Chinese places in particular don't use the app for any updates. It's just "we have received your order" and then later they show up. I particularly like the delivery guys who text "I am here". Like oh shit, we can start the party! Just leave the food, man.
I've also found that some places only exist for delivery, they have no interior to order or eat on-site. I wanted to visit 800 Degrees Pizza but they're one of these. I thought the philosophy was: restaurants don't make a lot of money, or lose money, on the delivery apps so they really want you to try the food and then later come to the actual location. But now I dunno, I guess some places can make all their money this way. |
