It is bad enough that YouTube has instituted "The WOR-TV Plan" commercial model for videos, but not only that, they're running fucking Mexican ones!
First is "The WOR-TV Plan." Back when New York City WOR-TV Channel 9 was on satellite and before ot became "WWOR EMI Service," they would run a movie - for about 5 minutes - then run three minutes of commercials, then run five minutes of commercials, etc., etc., etc, ad nauseum. I mean, the movie was so larded with commercials that by the time you're just starting to understand the film, it's time for another commercial! It got to the point where it was so bad, after the commercial break ended, they should have said, "We'll be right back with more great commercials after these brief scenes from our film," instead of the reverse.
Now, YouTube has started increasing the frequency of commercials during videos, to where it is almost as bad as free games on Android devices, 10 seconds of gameplay followed by a 30-second unskippable commercial.
But what really irritates me is the fucking Mexican commercials! I'n watching an English language video on an English language channel, from a US IP address in a zip code (22204) not generally occupied by Spanish-speaking households, and what do they show for an ad? A Spanish language commercial, often a Spanish dub - with Spanish language text - of an otherwise English language commercial. If I was buying Spanish language ads I certainly would be unhappy if they're running during English language videos, because it's pure waste. If I don't understand your video, your ad is wasted on me.
If I lived in the Los Angeles - San Diego region, or within 50 miles of the Mexican border, it would make more sense. |
