Digital minidisc recordings interpret 14 tracks as 255 tracks. Why? by Colonel K 06/14/2003, 10:01am PDT
My Sony R-90 can't properly allocate tracks for a store-bought 'Hail to The Thief' disc, nor two other CDs of lesser legitimacy. The digital recording process runs smoothly until the TOC edit splits songs into hundreds of different tracks. For example, an entire CD copied onto minidisc results in the first seconds of song #1 spanning 254 very, very brief tracks. Track 255 - with a runtime of 50 minutes or so - stores everything onwards.

Is this the result of CD technology designed to fuck up legitimate copies, or have newer CDs just outwitted my minidisc recorder?
